Red Bull Cliff Diving Bilbao Spain
I was extreamly exited to take part in my first Red Bull Cliff Diving Final.
After 4 years of wildcard competition, participating in 9 Red Bull competitions total, I finally reached my goal of earning a full time competitor's spot on the upcoming 2020 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. What an amazing feeling!
This past 4 years fell like a long time but if you know where I started then you know that I came a long way in a really short time!
As this week's event came to a close, I was so relieved to see my name placed on the full-time list. However, even with 8 months to go before the start of the 2020 season, I already get nervous just thinking about what's in store for me as every single one of these amazing athletes will be training to push the bar even higher! As this season wrapped up with us diving next to the iconic Guggenheim Museum, I am also looking back knowing that it was an emotional rollercoaster! I learned a few new dives of higher difficulty. I had some amazing scores and finishes. I had some not so amazing scores and finishes. Along the way, I tried to learn from anyone and everyone who was willing to share technique and training advice. Much of it worked well for me, and some of it was downright wrong for me, but you never know until you try! I am very grateful to compete among what is less of a group of athletes fighting for a win, and more of a family trying to help one another be their very best. To compete among these incredible athletes is truly inspiring....and crazy stressful! It is stressful enough just taking the leap from 20 meters when doing the easy dives. Add the pressure of wanting to reach the podium, and the insane fear of trying brand-new dives of a much higher difficulty, you can only imagine the uncertainty I have each time I make that long climb up to the takeoff platform. With physical and mental training as well as experience, I continue to gain in strength, but I promise you that today, I have just as many butterflies in my stomach at events as I did on my first day leaping from such high heights.
I want to thank everyone that helped me through another amazing high diving season. I also want to congratulate ALL of the high divers who took part in these incredible events.
Red Bull Cliff Diving , Fina, Infinite Drop and all of the individuals that make it possible for us to compete, I offer you my greatest appreciation. To the people who work so hard to take footage of our sport to share with the world, you have all been so kind to me, thank you for all your efforts! I am truly living a dream but it takes so much behind the scenes to make it all possible.
Thanks to you all for following along, for your friendship and support. Adventure isn't quite the same without friends and family to share it all with.
